The original name of the village was “Taverna”, a name that was firstly mentioned by the fishermen who arrived there to rest while enjoying good local wine in the fish tavernas of the village. Pausanias, in his work, referrs to it as a port, under the name “Phoenic Limin”. The official name of the village was established in year 1930 and remains until today.
